The Benefits of Blogging for your Small Business

The Benefits of Blogging for your Small Business

For those of you who haven’t been to a farm with sheep or Llamas in recent years, many of them have a large brick of salt for their animals called a mineral or salt lick.

A mineral lick is exactly what the name implies – a mineral deposit that animals lick in order to ingest the nutrients they need. Now, whether or not you want readers to lick their device screens or not is up to you, but you definitely want them to look at your blog as a source of “nutrients” they need to continuously return to and consume information.

Having a blog for you business is a marketing tool, but marketing such an ambiguous term, especially if you’re an entrepreneur just starting out. Blogging isn’t simply about generating sales. It’s a place where you find your customers, feed them information, and position your value – the equivalent of a digital mineral lick.

Consider Internet usage. People don’t just hop on the Internet for the sole purpose of buying your product. They go because they want information on the service or product to make an informed decision. Your blog should pave the way to finding information without obnoxious advertisements blocking the way.

You have to give, in order to get. Think about why you are an entrepreneur – you’re an expert in your field and you wanted to go rogue. Or something to that effect. How you’re doing it and why you’re doing it are just as important as whether you’re good at doing it.

The Internet is a busy place and there is a lot of information out there. In fact, every second 6,000 tweets are tweeted, 40,000 Google queries are and more than 2 million emails are sent, according to Internet Live Stats, a website of the International Real Time Statistics Project.

But search engines are smart. Shortly after you start your blog, the search engine robots (or bots for short) out your written content through their algorithms. You blog receives a higher grade with the use of proper grammar and spelling and if website visitors like, share or comment on your posts.
Now that you have traffic coming to your website through the blog, you have an opportunity to turn that traffic into new leads
